Blessed by the youngest E-Team Yet

Last month Kevin and Katy Woytowich, with their kids Olivai and Charlie, brought an all teenage team from Canada to focus on children clubs in Kilkenny, Waterford and Dublin. They asked if I would join in with some help leading and driving. It was neat to see everyone using their gifts and willing to try new things when we put on club after club. I’m praising God for these great servants and the future that God has for them.

Please pray for kids who came to our clubs for the first time and that each church can ether start up new or keep up with existing kids clubs.

Gorey Teen Week

Please Pray!!

There is an amazing group of teens in Gorey (some are in the picture above), who have hearts for growing in their faith and sharing it with others. I have been sooooo blessed to know these crazy cats and help with their monthly bible study all school year. Now a couple of 17 year old guys and I are organizing and leading a week of discipleship equipment and outreach. The mornings are going to be a study and going over a series called ‘life on mission’. We will have lunch together and then they’re inviting friends in the afternoons to some fun activities (like ultimate frisbee, or beach or BBQ). We will have a ‘halftime break’ in the activity when a couple of teens have the opportunity to share with the whole group, their story of encountering God and receiving salvation. (Aren’t they amazing!)

As you can imagine, we need loads of prayer! Please share with anyone who would pray with us. We start tomorrow with going over basics of the gospel and how to go about sharing your story. I am so excited and I can tell that God has lead this. It’s going to be so fun and crazy and deep and Lord willing, life changing. I’m praying all of us are amazed by His power.

Pray for ‘eteam’ 2016

Hello my dear friends,
I just wanted to ask for prayer for the team of women that I’ll be leading for the next three weeks. [Sheeba, Kathryn, Tamara, Shelby and Leah] They all arrive tomorrow morning and I will drive them home in a rented 7 seater MANUAL DRIVE car!!! Please pray for all of us in the next couple of days that we would be well bonded as we will just be meeting and that we can get organized and over jet lag quickly. Pray for me that I would be able to lead them well be able to make loads decisions along the way. Pray for the people who we will be sharing the good news of Jesus Christ’s salvation with and for our hearts to be soft to His leading.

This is a beautiful land and has amazing people in it. I’m so thankful for these women who are willing to give their time and make the effort of getting outside of their comfort zone to come offer light and truth in this place. Wanting to focus on Christ’s heart of compassion for people that moved Him to action. Would you join in with us and commit to drenching the efforts in prayer? This is His work and we desperately need Him.

Prayer request for tragedy in Gorey

I would love prayer for teenagers in the youth group with the bible study in Gorey that I’ve been involved with. This week a 14 year old girl from their school died suddenly of a brain hemorrhage during her gaelic football match. It’s made such an impact on the community that the school closed for the day of her funeral. I can’t imagine what it must have meant for all who knew her and for all who were at the match as well. Please be praying for her parents, coaches, teachers and students of Gorey Community School which may be many as it is the largest school in all of Ireland. Please pray specifically for the teens I work with who know Christ as their Lord and savior that they would have opportunity to share Christ’s love and comfort to everyone at the school who are so shaken and really shine light as they may be able to face this tragedy differently than those around them because of the hope and truth they personally stand on. I’m praying that God might be able to draw young people to Himself as they are faced with the reality of how fragile we are and how important it is to know Him.

Please Pray- Speaking at Dinner

Please pray for me-tonight Shankill Bible Church is putting on a community ladies Thanksgiving/Christmas Holiday dinner. I’ll be giving a short message at the end. Please pray that I will clearly give the gospel as well as share something encouraging/challenging for everyone.

Let the networking begin!

What a week! My first few days in Ireland were all filled up with simply adjusting. This last week, man, I’m telling you! God has started to open up the opportunities for networking :] I now have my visa (praise the Lord!!) and have been able to start a longer term mindset and get more rooted in. I’ve been able to meet lots of ministry leaders and hear of some things God has been stirring up with youth ministry. One of the local youth workers I had coffee with said that I’m “dipping my toe in every pool” and I like to think of it as taking inventory of ministry opportunities around and tuning my ears in to God to see what He wants me to be involved in :] Below I have some pics highlighting the crazy full week of the start of networking God’s providing.

To start off, Kaitlyn Howden arrived from Canada for her gap year to help out in Ireland in any way she can. We are going to be roomies! She’s only been here one week but has already been amazing to have! She has a huge heart for service and is ready to do any crazy opportunity that presents itself. I like to think of her as my protege or maybe minion ;]

Saturday I was able to come to a woman’s conference in Dublin and met lots of wonderful ladies

Tuesday Kaitlyn and I went to check out the immigration office (thinking I might not even be seen) and ended up staying for 12 hours and walking away my visa!!

Got my visa -today! It took 12 hours from beginning to end but went so smoothly it was only God :]

Nate Bramsen was speaking in Ireland and got me connected in Gorey with a whole youth group that’s pretty student led – SO exciting! These students have been part of the kids clubs that the Shanks helped put on. They are excited to share with to share the gospel with their friends in the biggest school in Ireland! God’s really put them on my heart to just encourage and invest in.

Kathy Moriarty got me and Kaitlyn connected with an outreach to the travelers at a horse fair in Ballinasloae. We met lots of ministry minded people who had gathered to share with these amazing people. We visited travelers in their caravans, sang in singing competitions, and talked with gypsy fortunetellers who’s families are all getting saved.

Phew! What a week! To end it, I’m headed up to the north and back tomorrow. I can’t wait to see what is in store for next week ;]

It’s almost time!

I’m officially leaving for Ireland next week [Sept 23]! Five years ago I said yes to God about going to serve in full time missions work and now it’s finally coming to a reality. It’s so hard to say goodbye to all of the people who have been such a big part of my life but I’m so excited to take this next big step in following God’s leading to the mission field.

Please pray for me that He would give me strength to say goodbye and that He would take away fears/insecurities about starting this new stage of ministry in Dublin. I have related a lot to Gideon lately and realize that God really was patient with his fears and would give him signs to help him see his power. In Judges 7:15 Gideon’s response for God’s encouragement was Worship. Please pray that God would keep bringing my heart to that state of total surrender and worship, that I would recognize who He is and that nothing will be through my efforts but His work.

Thank you everyone for your prayer, support and encouragement – I totally need it!!

Last Post Surgery Dr. Visit

Yes! Today was my last post surgery visit with my doctor. I had a spike of bone form on top of the joint of my big toe that was causing deterioration of the cartilage. The whole joint had to be cut and reshaped in surgery. My Doctor also took a section out of the main bone in my big toe, shortening it, so that this problem wouldn’t happen again. It was a long healing process with metal rods sticking out of my toe, having to wear a boot for almost two months, working through stretches and now it’s finally feeling a bit more normal. She says she’s very impressed with progress on my motion and that I should be able to do anything I want on it, even play sports! It will be swollen and hurt a while longer until it is fully healed and back to normal, but I’m out of the woods!

Thank you to everyone who’s been praying for healing and patients while I work through the pain. Here’s photos of the pre and post surgery X-Rays as well as one showing the rods that held the bone together. P.S. Let me know if you want to see pics of rods and stitches and scars ;]

Hi, my name is Heidi. I’m a regular country girl from Iowa who the Lord has called to be a missionary in Ireland. I plan to move to Dublin this September. I’ll be working with a local church to start up youth ministry outreach, as well as Bible conferences, and I’ll also be helping out a bit with camps and other existing ministries around Southern Ireland.

I hope to update this blog often using different categories that are listed in the menu on the top of the page. These categories will be

  • Day to Day – Personal reflections on what God is teaching me
  • Ministry Updates – Quick stories of what the Lord is doing in the ministries I’ll be involved with
  • Points of Interest- Culture – Zoom in on different aspects of the culture so you can feel like you’re here with me
  • Video Updates – Just in case you get tired of reading ;]
  • Travel Adventures – I’m sure I’ll have a few funny or interesting stories from going on little adventures around this amazing country we call Ireland.
